Come Camping in Bude
How to find Budemeadows
These directions are mainly for those coming from the North via the M5 or the East/South East/South Coast using the A303, A30 or M4/M5.
Note for SatNav users: Your SatNav may try to take you to the center of the area covered by the postcode and will tell you to turn off the A39 towards Widemouth bay (Leverlake Road). If you are coming South and this happens then you have another 200 meters still to go along the A39, coming North then you've just missed us. If you do find yourself in Leverlake road turning can be difficult for motorhomes or if you are towing. If this is the case then the simplest solution is to drive to the end of the road, turn Left and follow the road back around the meet the A39 again to the South of Budemeadows. Turn left here and then right into the lay-by after about 400 meters - we're at the far end.
The simple route - via Barnstaple and passing
Key North Devon attractions such as Clovelly, the Milky Way and the Big Sheep: Easy to follow but after Barnstaple the road narrows and there are several sharp bends on the A39 between Clovelly and Kilkhampton:
Exit the M5 at junction 27 (signed Barnstaple). Follow the A361 until you reach the roundabout before Barnstaple. Then take the A39 (signed Bideford, Bude) past Bideford, Clovelly and Kilkhampton. Close to Bude look for a turning on the left signed Holsworthy/A3079 but stay on the A39. Shortly afterwards there is a roundabout. DO NOT follow the signs to Bude but continue South (1st exit) for about 3 miles. Budemeadows is signposted from the main road at the top of the rise just after the sign on the right for Widemouth Bay. Pull into the lay-by on the left and the site entrance is on the left.
The shortest route - better than the previous route for those coming from the South East and London along the the A303/A30 past Exeter. NB there are a couple of steep hills between Okehampton and Holsworthy:
Remain on the M5 until past Exeter services. Exit at junction 31 to the A30 (signed Okehampton). Exit the A30 at Okehampton and go through the town. After climbing a long hill take the right turn (A3079), it is signed Bude, Holsworthy. Avoid Holsworthy town by turning right on the A3072, signed Bude. Go straight across mini roundabout, turn right on the A3072 (signed Bude). When meeting the A39 at Stratton turn left. At the roundabout DO NOT follow the signs to Bude but continue South (1st exit) for about 3 miles. Budemeadows is signposted from the main road, at the top of the rise just after the sign on the right for Widemouth Bay. Pull into the lay-by on the left and the site entrance is on the left.
Longer route but better roads and fewer steep hills:
Follow the previous route along the M5 past Exeter and ext at junction 31 to the A30 (for Okehampton). Stay on the A30 until about 5 miles past the Launceston exit. Take the exit for the A395, turn right at the roundabout, cross the A30 via the flyover and then take the first exit at the next roundabout to follow the A395. At Hallworthy turn right onto the B3262 (2nd right past the pub and filling station. Follow this road to the A39 and turn right onto the A39 (The Atlantic Highway). Continue North for about 12 miles to Budemeadows. You will pass through Wainhouse Corner and then Poundstock. Afte passing Poundstock as you drop down the hill you will see Bude over to the left. Look out for a turning to Widemouth Bay on the left and then look for the "Budemeadows" signs. At the 2nd Budemeadows sign turn right into the lay-by on right. There are 2 campsite entrances in the lay-by, Budemeadows is at the far end, just before it rejoins the A39.
- Pitches are normally available from 2:00pm and in high season we are unable to accept arrivals before this time. There are no parking spaces available on-site but there is a limited amount of space available in the lay-by outside. The main car parks at Widemouth Bay (not recommended for caravans) and in Bude do not have height restrictions and will accept car and trailer/caravan (although you will have to pay for 2 spaces).
- After 2:00PM please enter the site, pull up to the barrier on the left and proceed on foot to reception which is ahead and to the left.
- Please telephone if you expect to arrive after 7 pm and please note that the latest arrival time is 10 PM.
